Operational proof beats testimonials.
You are trusting a provider with source code and delivery infrastructure. These are the facts that matter before account creation.
Dedicated VM
Your forge is not a namespace in a shared cluster.
Dedicated database
Customer data is not mixed in a shared Forgejo database.
Dedicated storage
Repositories and attachments live on instance-specific storage.
Automatic TLS
Certificates are issued and renewed by the platform.
Monitoring
Fjord watches provisioning, health, capacity, and failed states.
Backups
Team and Pro get encrypted nightly backups with 90-day retention.
Choose the operating model that matches your constraints.
| Option | Best for | Tradeoff | Next step |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fjord | Teams that want their own Forgejo without operating it. | Managed provider trust matters. | Create Account |
| Self-host | Teams that must run the forge on hardware they own. | You own upgrades, TLS, runners, backups, restores, and incidents. | Compare self-hosting |
| GitHub or GitLab | Teams that want broad ecosystem defaults and centralized SaaS. | Not Forgejo; pricing and control model differ. | Compare options |
Migration should not be the blocker.
If you already know Forgejo, the decision is mostly operational trust and exit risk. Fjord keeps the instance standard and the migration path practical.
Will migration be painful?
No for standard moves. Forgejo can import repositories from GitHub and GitLab, and Fjord can help plan larger cutovers.
Who performs upgrades?
Fjord performs platform and Forgejo upgrade work. You keep using standard upstream Forgejo.
Who handles backups?
Fjord handles encrypted nightly backups on Team and Pro. Backups are currently stored in EU (Helsinki, Finland) for every Instance, whichever region you choose; per-region backup storage is being rolled out.
What happens during outages?
Fjord monitors the service, surfaces degraded states, and operates the restore and recovery path.
Can I leave later?
Yes. Use the Forgejo API, repository exports, or request a full forgejo dump.
Can I use standard Forgejo clients?
Yes. The instance is upstream Forgejo, so standard Git, SSH, API, and Forgejo-compatible clients work.
Managed Forgejo hosting FAQ
How long does migration take?
Small teams can usually start in minutes and migrate repositories the same day. Larger moves depend on repository count, CI, and cutover requirements.
Can I use my own domain?
Yes. Custom domain support is part of the managed forge plan model and should be planned before production cutover.
Can I move later?
Yes. Fjord runs upstream Forgejo and keeps export paths open through the API, Git remotes, and full forgejo dumps on request.
Do you support Actions?
Yes. Forgejo Actions are supported. Team and Pro can add dedicated Linux runners at $29/mo each within plan limits.
Can I use SSH?
Yes. Standard Git over SSH works with your managed Forgejo instance.
What versions of Forgejo?
Fjord runs standard upstream Forgejo and handles upgrades as part of the managed service.
